The Rhône Sediment Observatory is run by an interdisciplinary scientific consortium composed of different research teams. It involves chemists, geomorphologists, hydraulic engineers, hydrologists, oceanographers, etc. Since its creation, the observatory has involved more than 100 professionals (researchers, engineers, technicians, students, managers, etc.).
At the interface between research and management, the OSR is based on solid collaborations with the partners of the Rhône-Saône Plan. These partnerships are both financial and technical. They facilitate the co-construction of scientific questions, the sharing of data, the pooling of equipment and the organisation of joint field campaigns. They also enable research results to be discussed collectively.
Scientific partners
OSR involves 7 research teams along the Rhône River
UR Riverly
Lyon – Villeurbanne
Interdisciplinary research unit for the management and restoration of river systems and their catchments
UMR 7330 CEREGE
Aix-en-Provence
European Center for research and teaching in environmental geosciences
Governance
Marina Coquery (INRAE, RiverLy) and Olivier Radakovitch (ASNR, LRTA) are the scientific co-directors of the OSR.
Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee guides and organizes research. It makes proposals which are discussed and validated collectively by the Steering Committee.
The Scientific Committee represents the different research teams involved in OSR. It consists of the scientific co-directors and the leaders of each research axis of the observatory. The Scientific Committee may be open to other researchers by invitation.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee consists of the research teams (represented by members of the Scientific Committee) and the technical and financial partners. It may be open by invitation to any researcher involved in the OSR.
The Steering Committee takes the necessary steps to ensure the harmonious development of OSR’s activities, and in particular to ensure that scientific and operational issues are properly coordinated. It attends the progress of research activities, discusses possible reorientations, contributes to the dissemination of results, etc.
Coordination
Graie is in charge of general coordination and animation of the OSR, with support from the European Union (FEDER) and the partners of Rhône-Saône Plan.
INRAE, UR RiverLy is in charge of administrative and financial coordination.
INRAE (UR RiverLy) and CNRS (UMR 5600) coordinate data management.
