Rhône Sediment Observatory

Rhône Sediment Observatory (OSR) is an interdisciplinary research programme on the hydro-sedimentary processes in the Rhône River, from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea. OSR produces knowledge on the flows and stocks of sediments (pebbles, gravel, sand, silt, etc.) and on sediments contaminants.

This knowledge allows to address the management issues related to sedimentary processes in the Rhône River: flood risk, protection and restoration of biodiversity, flows and stocks of contaminants in sediments, and sediment supply to the sea and coastline.

The mission of the observatory is to support sediments management along the entire length of the Rhône River. It brings together the points of view of research teams and operational staff (public establishments, decentralized State services, local authorities, private companies, etc.) through exchange and co-construction between science and management.

portal

Are you looking for a scientific paper, research report or oral communication?
Access all of the OSR’s scientific publications on our Hal document portal.

Measurement
network
BDOH

OSR developped a river-wide network for measuring suspended matters and associated contaminants on the entire length of the Rhône River. All data collected is validated, banked and made available online via the BDOH-OSR database.

Data catalog

Are you looking for scientific data on the hydro-sedimentary processes of the Rhône River?
Consult the Rhône Sediment Observatory data catalog. It provides a description of all available data, allowing consultation or downloading, and specifying the conditions for reuse.

Photo library

The Rhône Sediment Observatory contribute ot the OHM Rhône Valley Photo Library.
This library brings together iconographic resources (photographs, maps, sketches, etc.) collected and made available by scientists.

GéoRhône

GéoRhône is an online cartographic platform. It enables the visualization of scientific data produced on the Rhône River. In particular, it offers a map of OSR field measurements.

ChronoRhône

ChronoRhône is an interactive and collaborative spatio-temporal application.
It describes and locates historical events that have marked the socio-environmental evolution of the river (developments, floods, pollution, legislation, research programs, etc.).
